On June 28th through July 6th, JO & BC went on a gigantic super-trip in
which 14 highpoints were bagged. We hiked every southern state, as well as many
states on the eastern seaboard. This trip brought our total up to 20 states!
Here are the stats of the trip, all climbs are easy drive ups unless mileage is
noted:
The following 14 highpoint reports are from the super-trip, enjoy!
We left from Boston MA
around 8pm Friday and drove through
the night, getting a little sleep in the car. On Saturday, we kept driving all
morning into the afternoon, arriving at the Florida
highpoint around 4:30pm.

Comments: We left from home near Boston,
MA about 8pm
and drove all the way down to Florida,
only stopping at gas stations and occasionally to eat. We took turns driving
and sleeping/navigating, although not much sleep was had. We switched every 300
miles or so, when the tank needed to be refilled. We navigated using a laptop
with a Microsoft mapping program. This program was indispensable on our trip.
Although I thought we didn't bring that much stuff, the trunk and back of the
car were filled with all kinds of loose junk, including CD binders, players and
headphones, a Game Boy Advance, laptop, MP3 player, adapter cables, many books,
a pillow, 3 blankets, 2 sleeping bags, a tent, two large duffel bags of
clothing, assorted water bottles, soda bottles and junk food, and a few
backpacks. We finally arrived in Florida
around 4:30pm, and parked at the
little park at the highpoint. The bathroom was extremely nasty. The whole place
was rather hokey. There really wasn't much there except a stone plaque at the
highpoint. It's not really a hill either, it's just a rise. It was the worst
highpoint yet, although I suppose there isn’t much demand for an elaborate
display of this low highpoint.

On the left, the sign marking the small park where the highpoint is
located. On the right, BC at the actual
HP. Man, that elevation is a killer.
After Florida, we kept driving
west through New Orleans, up into Mississippi,
and then west again into Louisiana.
Now, it’s Sunday and we drove to within 20 miles of the Louisiana
highpoint, and slept at a rest stop from 4:30am
- 7:30am, and then continued on to the LA hp.
